Celotex FAQs

Is Celotex The Best Insulation?

All Celotex products are highly effective and offer outstanding performance to ensure your property is a temperature-controlled environment. Celotex is a popular choice for insulation materials, however the insulation you require, is dependent on a multitude of factors including building regulations, where the insulation is being installed, and how it needs to be installed. The purpose of the insulation must also be considered to find the best insulation material for your project such as thermal quality, sound reduction, or loft insulation and so forth.

How do I store Celotex insulation?

Celotex insulation materials need to be stored in their original packaging in a cool dry space protected from all weather conditions. The boards should be stacked clear of the ground and should not be walked on, walking on the boards can cause damage to the boards core. If the boards had been heavily affected by the weather or damaged beyond use, the boards should not be used.

What insulation thickness do I need?

The thickness of the insulation you require will be dependant on where and how the insulation is being applied as well as the type of insulation. For example, when insulating a timber frame or roof rafter using rigid insulation boards, the thickness will depend on the depth of the frames or rafters and whether the wall requires an air gap. When applying mineral or glass wool rolls, the insulation is flexible and can be friction fitted and slightly compressed into the space. Always ask your architect to calculate the U-values and determine the insulation thickness you require.

What is the purpose of insulation?

Insulation materials are designed to prevent heat from transferring through the insulation and prevent air from seeping through gaps, which is known as thermal bridging. What this means is insulation materials prevent weather conditions from affecting the property such as hot or cold temperatures. This also means preventing the hot and cold air from heating or air conditioning units from escaping through the building’s envelope, this creates a comfortable and temperature-controlled environment and saves you money long term on energy bills.

What causes mould to develop in homes?

Mould reproduces from tiny spores that float through the air. There are many types of moulds and none of them can grow or thrive without water or moisture. Built up moisture such as warm air coming into contact with cold surfaces such as walls or windows creates moisture which condenses into water droplets, also referred to as condensation. Condensation is the most common cause of dampness.

Why is Celotex now Soprema and not Saint Gobain?

Saint Gobain reached an agreement in 2023 with Soprema for the sale of a majority stake in its PIR insulation business known as Celotex. As a result, Celotex was transferred to new standalone company, Soprema. Saint Gobain still retain a 25% minority stake in the new company however Soprema retains the majority stake at 75%.
