Recticel FAQs

Does Insulation Prevent Condensation and Damp?

Insulation materials when installed correctly can help to prevent moisture building in the home by keeping the property warmer, including the surface of walls. Condensation is less likely to build on a warm wall. However, insulation materials are not the solution to existing damp problems, when installed prior to resolving the damp concerns, it can actually worsen the situation of move the damp around the property. When insulation is installed incorrectly it can cause thermal bridging which will encourage condensation and mold growth. Mold must be treated and cannot be fixed with insulation alone.

Is Recticel as good as Celotex?

Recticel and Celotex products are almost identical. Both standard insulation boards from Recticel and Celotex, Recticel Eurothane GP and Celotex TB, GA, and XR, come in sizes of 2400mm by 1200mm with a thermal conductivity of 0.022W/mK. Celotex offers thicknesses available from 20mm to 200mm and Recticel offers thicknesses from 25mm to 160mm. With these products it really comes down to brand preference, thickness required, and costs.

What are the most common types of insulation?

The most common types of insulation include rigid insulation boards generally made up of Polyisocyanurate (PIR) or Polyurethane (PUR) with foil or tissue facings bonded to each side. Other common types of insulation materials are blanket insulation in the form of batts and rolls made up of fibreglass or mineral wool.

What is the difference between partial fill and full fill cavity insulation?

Full fill insulation materials are more suitable for new construction builds as it requires precision. Full fill insulation leaves no traditional air gap between the insulation and the outer leaf of the wall, meaning the insulation is in full contact with the inner and outer leaf of the wall creating a continuous thermal barrier. Partial fill insulation leaves a 50mm gap between the insulation and the outer leaf of the wall. The gap acts as a barrier preventing moisture levels reaching the internal side or inner leaf of the wall.

How do you insulate a cold wall from the inside?

Internal wall insulation can be installed by using a dot and dab method to apply the insulation directly to the solid / brick wall. It can also be installed by building a timber or stud frame onto the solid wall and filling it in with insulation materials such as rigid PIR boards or mineral wool fibre.
